There are so many things to see and enjoy in our Patagonia, and one of them is encountering the world’s smallest and most dynamic dolphin.
It’s one of the incredible experiences that Chubut offers to nature and cetacean enthusiasts, and it can be experienced just 1 hour by car from Puerto Madryn, half an hour by car from Trelew, and minutes from the capital city, Rawson.

The journey begins by touring the mouth of the Chubut River, where we find the picturesque fishing boats of the yellow fleet, a typical postcard scene of the Port of Rawson. These vessels are dedicated to fishing for hake, shrimp, and Patagonian prawn.
At the end of the river, we approach a small occasional haul-out of South American sea lions, and we explore the beautiful landscapes observing the various seabirds found on the coast: terns, black-crowned night herons, upland geese, black skimmers, and, depending on the time of year, some species of migratory birds.
From there, the vessel heads out to the open sea, an endless horizon, where much awaits to be discovered. We venture into the ocean, scanning the surface with eager eyes, in the hope of spotting the charismatic Patagonian dolphins. But it is they who find us.
Most of the times, it is the dolphins that approach and leap out of the water, playing with the wakes left by the boat. It’s a dynamic and fun experience for all ages. As they are wild animals, we cannot guarantee sightings nor predict their behavior.
